Teacher Appreciation Week

Teaching Is a Spiritual Practice

Because each child is a miracle of creation

Because students learn and change in front of us and because of us

Teaching is a spiritual practice

Because each child differs from every other child and is new each day

Because listening, observing, and discerning are skills that grow

Teaching takes deep practice, spiritual practice

Because each day opens new doors to inner and outer worlds

Because teacher and student are fellow travelers through these doors, are one

Because shared discovery inspires awe

Teaching is a spiritual practice

Three ways to celebrate our amazing teaching staff this week at Friends School of Portland.

Lee Chisholm, 2019

Lee Chisholm, 2019

Lee Chisholm’s superpower would be telepathy, because he always seems to know what people are thinking and feeling. He has such deep empathy for everyone and works hard to ensure that each student feels comfortable in a given space, whether that’s being caught up in math class or having their chance to speak in a meeting.

Carie’s power is invisibilty because she is such a good hider but more because she’s always able to know what each person needs even if they don’t know they need it yet.

Jonathan’s power is the ability to shapeshift into the B.F.G. at any moment.
