Special Events
Fall Fest
In early Fall, FSP’s Community CareGiver Committee hosts Fall Fest to welcome the changing season and families to the school year. This is a fun and festive way to meet other FSP families. The event typically has a snack potluck, music, and cider pressing.
Fall Book Pop-Up Shop and Swap
In late fall, FSP’s love of books takes over for an afternoon in collaboration with BackCove Books. Our meeting room is transformed into a curated bookshop with titles selected by FSP teachers complete with comfy chairs to settle in with your new favorite read. Lightly-used and pre-owned books are encouraged to be dropped off and swapped for this fun family event!
Friends School of Portland offers a free community summer event series. We hold a few simple afternoon and evening events that include authors and musicians. This summer, we are looking forward to music with The Rage Potatoes All Comer’s Band, Dominic Lavoie and the Butte Pack Band, and a visit with author Phuc Tran.
Friends School of Portland’s Parenting for Peace program developed as an outgrowth of our overall educational vision – to encourage inquiry, reflection and action and to strengthen our community of learners. Parenting for Peace represents FSP's commitment to engaging with our larger community, being of service as a learning community, and providing opportunities for inquiry and discernment for adults. Our topics are broadly about issues relevant to raising children in a peaceful, loving environment using the lens of Quaker values.
In Fall 2024, we hosted a conference “Centering Inquiry in Teaching and Learning.” In Spring 2025, we hosted Mihku Paul.
Our Annual Auction is Friends School of Portland's most important fundraising event. Proceeds go directly to FSP's Annual Fund, which supports the most essential aspects of FSP and supplements tuition aid. The annual event includes a kick-off event, a Saturday morning community celebration, and an online fundraising auction every May.
Grandfriends’ Day
Every Fall and Spring, we welcome grandfriends for a special morning of classroom time with students. Grandfriends include grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and special family friends. During November, grandfriends of middle school students are welcomed. And during April, grandfriends of preschool and elementary school students are welcomed.
Life After FSP
Each December, we hold a "Life After FSP" panel with a handful of graduates to share about their experience with current middle school families. This is also a time for FSP graduates to connect prior to the panel with old friends and teachers over food. The event is open to graduates, current FSP middle school families, and current FSP parents.
