On Tuesday, April 11 from 7 - 8:30 over Zoom, we will be hosting a talk called "How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet: Showing Up for Ourselves and Young People in the Face of Climate Change" given by the author Sarah Jaquette Ray, who works at the intersection of social justice and climate emotions in youth.

In what ways can we as adults support young people learning about the realities of climate change?

Drawing on her book, A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet, Dr. Sarah Jaquette Ray will talk about the role of emotions in the youth climate movement: the emotional resources young people will need to combat burnout and even find purpose in building the world they desire. Ray will outline strategies for engaging anxiety, grief, despair, and also joy, desire, and pleasure in service of cultivating a more just and regenerative world.

What will it take for all of us to bring our best selves to the long haul of climate justice work?

Friends School of Portland’s Parenting for Peace program developed as an outgrowth of our overall educational vision – to encourage inquiry, reflection and action and to strengthen our community of learners. Parenting for Peace represents FSP's commitment to engaging with our larger community, being of service as a learning community, and providing opportunities for inquiry and discernment for adults. Our topics are broadly about issues relevant to raising children in a peaceful, loving environment using the lens of Quaker values.
