About the Admissions Process
Discerning the right school for your child is important work. Our admissions process is designed to support you in learning more about our school community, and in helping us learn more about your family.

An inquiry is the first step in building a relationship with our school. By completing an inquiry, you’ll help us get to know your family and better understand what you’re looking for in a school. Once you submit your inquiry, we’ll share more about our programs and add you to our admissions mailing list so you can stay informed about upcoming events and important deadlines.

The best way to discover if our school is the right fit for your family is to visit! Whether you’re seriously considering applying or are just curious, we encourage you to join us for one or more of these Admissions events:

Applying for admission is a multi-step process. It helps to start early. We will open the application for the 2027-28 school year on Dec. 1, 2026.
Application Steps
Complete the Online Application
Submit a transcript release form to your child’s current school (for applicants entering grades 1-8)
Confirm that your child’s current teacher has received and will complete the online teacher reference form (if applicable). We will email the teacher reference form to your child’s teacher after you complete the application.
Application Checklist
Your application will be considered complete once the school has received all of the following:
A completed online application
A current teacher reference (if applicable)
A transcript from a current school (if applicable)
A $40 application fee
Please submit your application at least a week before the deadline to allow time to request and receive teacher references and school transcripts. The Priority Application Deadline is Jan. 22, 2027.

We encourage families to apply during our Priority Application period whenever possible. This process gives families and our school the opportunity to connect, ask questions, and explore whether Friends School of Portland is the right fit.
Application Opens: December 1, 2026
Priority Application Deadline: January 22, 2027
Priority Application Visits
During the Priority Application period, we invite as many applicants as possible to visit our school. Students spend time in a classroom while parents and guardians meet with the Head of School. Because visit opportunities are limited, we may not be able to invite every priority applicant to visit during this period. We continue to offer admissions visits during rolling admissions, as space allows.
Priority Application Decisions
Families who apply by the Priority Application deadline will receive an admission decision by email and letter no later than March 10, 2027. Families who are offered priority admission are asked to respond within two weeks, no later than March 24, 2027. Families who are not offered priority admission during may be offered admission during rolling admissions, as space allows, or added to waitlists.

After the priority application process and deadline, families can continue to apply for available spaces, or add their child to program waitlists, during the rolling admissions period.
Rolling applications and admissions will close in early August.
